Do you have a weekly organising routine?
By assigning small organising ideas to each day of the week you’ll be amazed at how much you achieve in a year without even trying. Personally, we love Throw Out Thursday! Even the kids can do some days – they might even think it’s funny!
MONDAY ~ meal plan Monday
Work out your weeks menu and fill in the “what’s for dinner?” spot in your organiser. Then you can do the shopping for the whole week. This saves both time and money. In 2-3 weeks, simply rotate the previous week’s meals again.
TUESDAY – tidy up Tuesday
Every Tuesday tidy something. Big or small – a shelf in the pantry, a shelf in the linen press, shoes at the back door, your wallet…
WEDNESDAY – one drawer Wednesday
Every Wednesday tidy one drawer. Your underwear, t-shirts drawer, the utensils drawer, the pen & paper drawer…
THURSDAY – throw out Thursday
Every Thursday, toss something out (or recycle). Throw out a child’s painting or piece of craft (when they’re not looking), throw out the dead flowers, throw out some old magazines, newspapers, something broken your husband’s been keeping…
FRIDAY – file it Friday
Every Friday, go through your organiser and do a quick tidy up and if you’ve got paperwork that needs filing, do it now. Filing is much easier in smaller piles than left to build up.
Get the kids thinking along the same lines
Tuesday – tidy up Tuesday: Get them to tidy something in their room. Make their bed, tidy their shoes, a shelf in the wardrobe, under the bed, the pile of clothes on the floor…
Wednesday – one drawer Wednesday: Get them to tidy one drawer in their room. That’s not much to ask and they might even think it’s funny!
Thursday – throw out Thursday: Throw out a piece of craft, rubbish from their school bags, hair from their brush (someone’s got to do it), there’s always some piece of rubbish in their bedrooms to throw out and they don’t have to look too hard.
Friday – file it Friday: Get them to go through their school bags, notes and homework papers and file what they need to keep and throw out what they don’t.
These are tiny tips, but added up over the year, that’s 52 drawers they’ve tidied and 52 dinosaurs made out of toilet rolls they’ve thrown out . . .
